A first year S-400 in excellent condition, one of the early ones with the smaller upper bout, considered by many to be far better looking than the later version. This one was owned by (name engraved on the trussrod cover) Floyd Graham (aka 'Fessor), a highly respected collegiate bandleader and music educator at University of North Texas College of Music, with distinguished graduates such as Herb Ellis & Jimmy Giuffre. The guitar had gone back to Gibson in the late '30s for the newer improved tailpiece and tuners - you almost never see one with the original tuners because they were a particularly low point for Grover, basically non-functional, and repair of a headstock break a long time ago which is barely visible with a neck refinish. A newer label with the original serial number was pasted over the remains of the original label. There does not appear to be any other repairs or issues. It sounds a lot better than many of these, and plays great with a recent refret.
