The 00-21 has been Martin's longest running model, with it's classical sized body, 12-fret neck and slotted peghead. In the mid-'60s folk boom, the NY version was added as sort of a throw-back to the way they were made in the '20s and earlier, with no pickguard, smaller bridge and lighter construction, meant to be strung with silk & steel strings?the misconceptions of the times were such that guitars were thought to need to be heavier for steel strings, and that Folkies were wimpy young things that couldn't muster the strength for those aformentioned steel strings. Of course, we now know that these lighter guitars are perfect for light guage strings, and us folkies can handle them just fine. Now it's the rockers who are the wimps, with their super slinky, bend-a-whole-tone .09s and .10s. This particular 00-21NY is in very excellent condition, with only one ding of minor consequence, a recent neck reset, and beautiful Brazilian rosewood. The lucky (and intelligent) person who buys it will be just its third owner.
