Product Description
This 1960 Stratocaster has a beautifully full, warm bottom end and mid-rage and the top end just sparkles perfectly. The Stratocaster has been owned by the same player for 30 years. It was purchased from Gruhn Guitars in 1992 and comes with a copy of the certificate of inspection that authenticates the originality of the guitar. 1959/1960 was one of the acmes of transitional success for the Stratocaster. We see a change away from the one piece maple neck to a slab brazilian fretboard and slightly hotter wound pickups that led to a new and different kind of richness in sound the Strat now had to offer. The pots in the guitar are original 1959 Stackpoles with a rectangular paper and oil cap. The wiring seems undisturbed except for what we may think is a newer period correct replacement output jack. The guitar does have some sanding that erased part of the logo on the peghead. There are also signs of sanding on the neck heel which has erased the pencil marked date. One article points out "Due to a complaint by a Fender customer as to an obscenity written on the neck butt, no markings were used for the first part of 1959. The pencil mark dates returned by mid 1959." But alas it appears the sanding marks on the heel were intentional. The rest of the body finish has a fair amount of dark staining and overspray on the treble side. These are things easily overlooked by players in the hunt for a nicely priced piece of "Golden Era" Fender building.
