Product Description
Build by Bruce Sexauer, with an ultra-fine Italian Spruce top and Oregon Myrtle back and sides. This is a 12-fret cutaway, a model that Bruce has been building for Schoenberg for ages, the first one being my personal guitar for years. Every one has been an astounding success. The long scale turns these smaller body guitars into full-voiced concert quality instruments. Other juicy details of this one are hide glue construction, Madagascar rosewood pyramid bridge, oil varnish finish and, most importantly, myrtle back and sides. The myrtle idea comes from Bruce, who has a great wood sense that goes beyond the known standards and who will try anything that shows guitar-ness. It turns out that myrtle, at least this Oregon sourced myrtle, has a tonal characteristic between mahogany and rosewood, sort of like koa but different. (Describing tonewood tonal quality is a very impracticle process.) Like koa which blossoms when coupled with a spruce top, the myrtle delivers extreme musicality. This is also a lightly built instrument, and thus is to be strung with light gauge or lighter only.
